Fjordhus Reivers 6

Watsonians 1

FJORDHUS Reivers Men did their bit on Saturday to contribute to a fantastic high scoring weekend for the club.

On paper this could have been a tight match against a strong Watsonians team.

In practice the Fjordhus Reivers blend of youth and experience simply overpowered their opposition, who never really came to terms with the pace and width of the Borders side.

Watsonians actually opened the scoring, a simple but effective penalty corner squeezing in at the near post.

However Charlie Jack's cross-cum-shot soon levelled matters for the Borderers and from that point Watsonians were put under constant pressure, struggling to clear their lines.

Scott Girvan soon fired the Borders team into the lead from a penalty corner, and with the Tweedbank men finding themselves able to get in behind the Watsonians defence it was no surprise when captain Graham Lofthouse drilled in a third, converting from a well worked cutback.

The second half offered little respite for the home team, with Fjordhus Reivers harrying the opposition in midfield, and switching from wing to wing in attack.

Charlie Jack added his second from a slapped penalty corner, James Logan finished neatly from a few yards out, and Paul Goldie skelped one in from the edge of the circle.

Overall a strong team performance with the Fjordhus Reviers midfield, Callum Murray especially, deserving particular praise for their tireless running. The scoreline also belied a great defensive performance - the Borderers defended as a team from front to back continually pressing the home defence and forcing errors from some skilful Watsonian players.

It has been a good season for the Fjordhus Reivers Men who will be looking to make themselves unassailable at the top of Division 3 in their next match - a Borders derby against Peebles!
