Fjordhus Reivers U16s 7

King George V U16s 2

The Fjordhus Reivers Boys U16 team started a fantastic weekend for the club with a commanding 7-2 win over a touring team.

The opposition came from King George V Camp Hill School from Birmingham, who had beaten Cockermouth the previous day.

The Reivers started very strongly and sustained the dominance throughout the first half.

A team consisting of a number of 14-, 15- and 16-year-old boys, who consistently play for the men's team, provided a backbone allowing some younger players to gain match experience. The team overall ranged in age from 10 to 16 years old.

The visitors appeared to have no answers to the skill and team performance of the Reivers.

A few break away chances threatened the Reivers goal, with the visitors only managed to convert twice.

The Reivers continued in the second half with an excellent work rate throughout the team. The performance of all players saw some flowing hockey being played.

The boys used the full width of the pitch attacking from both flanks to create multiple chances. The goals came from a number of players but the team performance was excellent.

The strong and flowing attacks were backed up by good defensive play. The Reivers boys consistently applied pressure on the visiting team all over the pitch forcing errors to maintain the dominant play.

An excellent performance by the boys shows that boys hockey is gaining momentum in the Borders.
