Edinburgh Uni 4s 3

Fjordhus Reivers 2s 6

FJORDHUS Reivers 2s headed up to Peffermill on Saturday, knowing they would be facing a stern challenge from Edinburgh Uni 4s who, sitting right behind the Reivers in the league table, are the only team to have inflicted defeat on the Tweedbank outfit this season.

However, it was the Reivers ladies who got into their stride quicker and were first to score when, after good play in the D, the ball was threaded through to Denise Fairbairn who was well positioned at the back post to slot home.

With both teams testing each other, the first half was like a game of chess until the Reivers cut loose with two further goals in two minutes.

Laura McLean, instrumental in both goals with fine runs from deep and causing chaos in the University defence, set Sara Robson up for the second goal, before driving into the D and scoring the third herself.

The city side however stuck to their task and, just before half time, after just drawn a superb save from the young Reivers keeper Holly Grieve, secured a penalty corner from which they managed to pull a goal back with a fine strike.

After the break the Reivers immediately went back into attack, and from the resultant well worked penalty corner, Janet Jack scored to make it 4-1. However, a momentary lapse in concentration in defence allowed Edinburgh Uni to get back into the game, with their second goal, and with this boost to morale they managed to score a third to make it 4-3 with 10 minutes still on the clock!

This Reivers side however have a strong belief in their collective ability and were able to settle any nerves there may have been, quickly finding their rhythm once again, and after a good build up and a strike from Laura Mclean, the industrious CiaraDonlevy did well on post to tap in to restore a two goal advantage.

Skipper Ashley Robson then killed the game with a fine solo goal following a drive into the opponent's D, showing a calm cool head to deceive the city keeper making the final score 6-3.

Best for the Reivers were Holly Shepherd and Jackie Wilson who both had solid performances in defence.

However it was a real gutsy performance from the entire squad as they fight on to try to retain their League title.

Fjordhus Reivers Ladies 2s next league game is Saturday they host Boroughmuir 1s at Tweedbank with a 12.30pm pass back.
