GALA Harriers athletes proved that every cloud has a silver lining as their under 17 men’s team took second place team medals in damp conditions at the Young Athletes Road Races on Saturday.

Competing at a rainy Battery Park in Greenock, Faisal Khursheed continued his successful season to finish in 6th place, with team mates Callum Tharme (12th) and Yousuf Khursheed (23rd) running well to secure the trio the silver medal.

The race was won by Fife AC’s Adam Scott, with Cambuslang AC team winning the gold team medal.

In the U17 women’s race, Katie Rourke showed continued good form, coming 8th, with team mates Zoe Pflug and Katie Wilkinson coming 10th and 15th respectively.

The race was won by Central AC’s Kate Gallagher and team gold went to Giffnock North AAC.

In the U13s boy’s race, Ewan Christie performed well to take 15th place in a field of 76 runners, with Inverness Harrier Lucas Cairns taking the title. Lewis Tharme was 26th in the U15 boy’s race, won by Giffnock North’s Hamish Armitt, and Eilidh Forbes took 37th place in the U15 girl’s race which saw Lily Jane Evans-Haggerty (VP-Glasgow) securing victory.
