THIS year's Grand National winner is coming to the Borders today.

Following his victory on Merseyside on Saturday, April 8, the Grand National winner One For Arthur is will be appear at Kelso Racecourse's Buccleuch Cup and family day.

The eight-year-old Aintree winner will be doing a parade at the track ahead of its first race at 2.10pm today (Monday, April 10).

The horse was bought for £60,000 three years ago by Belinda McClung from Ancrum, and Deborah Thomson, from Kelso, who now resides in East Lothian.

The pair were left in disbelief after watching their horse triumph by four and a half lengths.

Speaking after the win, Deborah Thomson said: “I just can’t believe it. It’s been an absolutely amazing day. Arthur just cruised that race, Derek rode so well and I’m just a bit lost for words really. I just can’t believe we’ve won the Grand National – it’s fantastic. He’s given us a fantastic journey.”

Belinda McClung added: “I thought this morning (Saturday), it’s baking hot so there’s no pressure now, he’s not going to win on that ground but I have to say he’s just shown his class today. He’s amazing and he got a great ride.”

The winner’s parade for the racehorse is set to take place in the course’s paddock at about 1.30pm with the champion also set to return later in the year to race.

Tickets for the Buccleuch Cup and family day at Kelso Racecourse cost £13 or £16. For more information, visit: www.kelso-races.co.uk.
