SCOTLAND'S leading tennis coaches Judy Murray and Kris Soutar were in the Borders on Saturday to encourage the next generation of ace hitters.

The Tennis on the Road sessions at Kelso's Orchard Park club attracted over 60 children and parents for a day of coaching, games and fun.

Many of the club's coaches and volunteers also took part in a morning session aimed at skill building.

Kate Bull from Orchard Park told us: "In the morning, we had 25 coaches, teachers, club volunteers and young leaders taking part in fun relays and skill building stations to learn how to run summer camps for juniors.

"This was great fun with 16 juniors coming along halfway through for the coaches to see the games and skill building activities in action."

Following a lunchtime barbecue around 25 youngsters from as far away as Peebles, Hawick and Earlston took part in a team competition.

The Jamie Murray Doubles games allowed the teams to build up points with activity sessions.

And to conclude the afternoon a parent-and-child competition, which involved skill building exercises and relay races to develop a child's coordination and tennis skills, took place.

Kate added: "The day was a huge success and the club would like to thank Judy and Kris for coming along and providing an amazing day of sessions.

"Thank you to all those who came along to support the day and we hope they had a much fun as we did."
