SELKIRK boss Ian Fergus has described former Whitehill manager David Bingham as his “best signing”.

Last week it was announced the pair would team up once again after working together at Dunfermline Athletic.

The 46-year-old has taken up the role as assistant manager for the season and Fergus says he couldn’t be happier.

He told the Border telegraph: “For me this is our best signing, so obviously I’m delighted. Getting David is massive for me personally and for the club.

“As far as coaching goes, he’s the best I could have brought in. We’ve both got UEFA A licences so the boys will get the best of both worlds and we’ll share the responsibilities.

“If I was a player I would be thinking about coming to Selkirk because they’ll get everything we can possibly give them.

“Without going over the top, is there a better management team?

“I’d be hard pushed to find one, there’s some good managers out there, but there’s two of us now and four eyes are definitely better than two. It’s a big benefit for Selkirk a massive benefit for players coming into the club and the future will hopefully be bright. It doesn’t guarantee you results, it’s all about the players really. But if we can affect the players, then hopefully we can affect the results in the long run.”

Bingham left Whitehill at the beginning of last week after guiding them to a eighth-place finish.

He added: “I think we always knew at some stage we’d probably work together again at some club.

“I am delighted to be here, I can see the difference first hand that Ian has made to the club and everybody speaks very highly of him.

“I’m keen to get in and get started and obviously I appreciate Ian giving me the offer after leaving Whitehill.

“I said to Ian the other day if I don’t come in here I won’t be going anywhere. It was always going to be with Ian at Selkirk or I would have said that was it.”

“I’ve got a wealth of experience playing wise and I will hopefully be able to help enhance the training.

“I think we complement each other because we see the game the same way. I know as a manger that four eyes are better than two.

“Ian has a great knowledge of the game, especially of the youth, whereas I have a bit more experience of management at this level. It’s going to be a tough job because we want to move the club forward, and to do that we need to improve what’s already here and that’s not always as easy as it sounds.”
