SELKIRK boss Ian Fergus admits he can’t wait for his delayed holiday after continuing to work through the close season.

The Yarrow Park gaffer kept his first team coaching sessions going after his players finished second bottom last season.

While he believes the summer sessions are paying off, he admits he's is in need of a week away.

Ian told us: “Keeping training going through the summer has been vital.

“It makes sure we are all fit and ready for the new season and it has allowed me to bring new players down for a look at what we do as I try to sign them.

“It’s been a busy few weeks for me so I’ll be glad to get a week’s break in the sun before the season starts.”

Fergus has already captured the signature of versatile midfielder Reece Donaldson, who has played previously for Raith Rovers and Linlithgow Rose, and a secured a season-long loan deal for highly-rated Dalkeith Thistle player Lewis Turkington.

And he also added David Bingham to his coaching team earlier in the month.

This week he hopes to unveil two new strikers – one from a neighbouring Lowland League team and one from junior football – as well as a promising young centre-half.

Fergus added: “We have held encouraging talks with several really good players and I should be able to name them in the next few days once the paperwork is complete.

“I had a good squad of players already from last season and the boys we are bringing in will strengthen what we already have.

“Reece brings with him a good pedigree and I believe he will be a big player for us in the season ahead.

"Lewis has impressed me considerably since coming to training and I’d like for him to become a Selkirk player after his loan-deal ends.”

Selkirk’s warm up games begin on Saturday, July 8 against North-East side Jarrow Roofing at Yarrow Park, kicking off at 2pm.

They will entertain Partick Thistle the following Saturday with a 12 noon kick off and also have a game arranged against Lothian Thistle on Saturday, July 22.

The following day (Sunday, July 23) Ian Fergus’s team will play Hibernian for the Bobby Johnstone Cup.
