RECORDS were smashed at Whitestone Park on Saturday as Peebles County kept their East of Scotland Division Five promotion hopes alive.

Dougie Voas struck an incredible 194 not out, which included seven sixes, as County reached 338 for three wickets from their 40 overs.

Pete Caddick's 86 also led to a new partnership record of 219 being recorded.

In return Preston Village and Tranent reached 236 for eight.

The big-scoring victory keeps Peebles fourth in the table.

Despite pitch problems forcing Melrose's match at Kirkbrae to be cancelled they still sit top of Division Five.

In the Championship, Gala took a giant stride away from the relegation places with a convincing six wickets win over bottom side Marchmont at Meigle Park.

Robbie Irvine added to his three wickets by hitting 44 from the crease.

Kelso remain third in the table after their 159-run victory over Dunnikier.

In Division Two St Boswells recorded a tight eight runs win over Livingston to move up to fifth in the table.

Steve Broom's half century helped the Bossie to 123 for nine from their 40 overs.

And it took some determined fielding as well as three late wickets, for the loss of only eight runs, to hold the visitors.

Selkirk recorded an important 64 runs victory in Division Three.

Jordan Reid took four of the Tranent wickets while Greg Fenton notched up 58 during Selkirk's innings.

Despite the win Selkirk still sit second bottom in the table.

Hawick and Wilton continue their march towards promotion in Division Four with a 188 run victory over Dunfermline at Buccleuch Park.

Gary Alexander hit 79 and his opening-partner son Ronan also notched up a half century.

But it was Stuart Hair with 82 who was Hawick's top batsman.

The victory maintain's Hawick and Wilton's 100 per cent record this season in the league.
