BORDERS para athlete Samantha Kinghorn is waking up this morning as the new T53 200 metres world champion.

The 21-year-old from Gordon also set a new world record last night in London as she took gold.

Sammi led from the start and had a five metre lead over defending champion Angela Bullard of Australia as she crossed the finishing line in a time of 28.61.

Sammi said: "I didn't think it (winning the world championships) would come this early in my career.

"I've been working so hard.

"I'm going to have to say it a few times in my head before I can say it out loud. It's amazing."

She is back in action on Tuesday for the heats of the 400 metres at 12.50pm, with the final scheduled for the following day at 9.12pm.

On Sunday (July 23) Sammi will line up for the heats of the 100 metres at around 11am with the final taking place less than two hours later at 12.45pm.

And her final events will be on Sunday evening at 6.51pm where she lines up for the final of the 800 metres.
