MORE than 30 players took part in Sunday's charity football match at Netherdale.

The event, which was organised by Langlee resident Paul Bertram, was held to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK.

And after a hard-fought battle, which saw the crossbar struck on several occasions, it was Bertie's 'Auld' Stars who came out on top with a 5-3 victory over Pedro's Legends thanks to goals from David Smith, Stewart Robertson, Malky Smith, Alan Dickson and Ryan Cass.

Tino Smith and Bob Cleghorn (2) were the scorers for the opposition.

After the match, organiser Paul told the Border Telegraph: "It has been a great turnout and it was a great game. I have to say thank you to everyone who took part.

"We're hoping to do the same again next year, but it would be good if we can add a couple of different events such as walking football, women's football or five-a-side."

Gordon Elliot from the NHS Borders Health Improvement Team added: "This is the second match Paul has organised for the charity and both have been a success.

"These events can help send a message about the importance of getting checked out early."

Bertie's 'Auld' Stars: Jason Clark, Fred Blackie, David Smith, Paul Bertram, Kenny Donaldson, Stewart Robertson, Augusto Rocha, Malky Smith, Keith McAulay, Alan Dickson, Siobhon Andrew and Ryan Cass.

Pedro's Legends: Andy Davie, Stuart Turner, Steven Noble, Ally Bell, Andy Crawford, Robbie Winters, Pedro McCourt, Tino Smith, Bob Cleghorn and Bruce Ronaldson.

The match which was sponsored by Borders Pharmacy, was refereed by Rob Fairburn.
