A SMALL athletics club in Innerleithen created history at the weekend by winning every place in a hotly contested final.

Large crowds watched in amazement at Birnam Highland Games as Leithenburn's young sprinters not only won all of the 90 metres heats, but also claimed the qualifying runners-up places.

John Motion's school have been breaking the tape and turning heads at meetings up and down the country all summer.

But Saturday's achievement was a first for any athletics in Highland Games history.

John told us: "I am told in the Highland circuit there has never been one school of runners taking the entire six places in any final before.

"The the youths of Leithenburn have now done that."

In a closely contested final it was 10-year-old Callum McRobert who edged the title from training partner Louis Whyte with Sam Archibald in third, Aaron Glendinning fourth.

Leah Currie claimed fifth ahead of Eve Rathie in sixth.

There was further success on the Perthshire track with 10-year-old Aaron also claiming the youths 1600 metres.
