GORDON wheelchair athlete Sammi Kinghorn claimed a silver medal in her first competitive half marathon.
The 21-year-old, who was a double gold medalist at the recent World Para-athletics Championships over 100 and 200 metres, is stepping up in distance ahead of next year's Commonwealth Games.
The Gold Coast 2018 programme only offers the marathon and 1500m for T53 athletes.
On Sunday Sammi chased Switzerland's Manuela Schar, who set a new course record of 48 minutes 44 seconds, along the Great North Run course to claim a highly creditable second place in in 52:47.
Sammi intends to race her first marathon in Chicago next month.
