A LAST minute goal by Derek ‘Pickle’ Watson rescued a point for Gala Hotspur in their Division B clash with Hawick Legion.

Spurs took an early lead through a Scott Nightingale penalty but Scott Duncan and Andrew McFarlane put Legion ahead.

Gala looked set for their third defeat in four games until Watson volleyed in the equaliser.

Spurs manager Fred Blackie said: “We were down to 13 players for this match but we are pleased with the way we battled to the end.

"Special mention to stand-in keeper Damian Marciniak who pulled off another fine performance between the sticks."

A Kyle Wood double helped Tweedmouth Amateurs to a 5-1 win over Lauder and to the top of Division B, alongside Earlston Rhymers who defeated Linton Hotspur 3-1 with goals from Scott Hunter and a Shaun Quinn double.

A Scott Collins treble helped Langholm Legion to a 5-2 win over Leithen Rovers, and there were also wins for Duns Amateurs and Kelso Thistle.

A Jordan Yardley goal with four minutes to go ensured Hawick Waverley kept hold of their 100 per cent record in Division A as the Teries defeated in-form Greenlaw 3-2.

Defending league champions Chirnside United are back in the title race after thumping Coldstream Amateurs 4-0, and currently sit in second place on goal difference.

And in an early relegation clash, Tweeddale Rovers came out on top against Newtown.

Grant Wilson, Craig Collin and Greig Shortreed all found the net for the Peebles side in a 3-2 victory, while Darren Blacklock and Stephen Swanston scored for Newtown.

Newtown boss Kenny Donaldson said: “We fought back from 2-0 down to level the match but then lost a goal on the break. We had six players missing so hopefully when they are back we can start to climb the table.”

Hawick United and Jed Legion also enjoyed wins in Division A.

Jamie Robertson fired Berwick Colts top of Division C with a fine 4-1 win at Hawick Legion Rovers, with Highfields United and Kelso Amateurs also winning.

And a late goal by Ross Hope rescued a point for Melrose at Selkirk Victoria in the remaining Division C game.
