LAST week was the Borders Regional Swimming Committee's (BRSC) final event of the Border Swim Program.

Peebles hosted the annual Border Relay Championships and welcomed five other Borders clubs to battle it out for the Junior, Intermediate, Senior and Overall relay titles.

Fielding full boys and girls teams in the three age group categories, Gala ASC were confident that some silverware could be won.

But never in their wildest dreams could they envisage being crowned Borders Champions in the Intermediate, Senior and Overall categories whilst coming runners up in the Junior section.

Relay swim events are one of the few chances swimmers get to compete in a team environment and savour the camaraderie that brings.

The all for one and one for all team spirit shone through as every Gala member cheered on their colleagues, helping them find that extra burst of pace that in the end separated them from the other teams.

Those lucky enough to see the event through the small viewing window all commented on a fantastic team effort, with some great individual swims and PBs which ultimately saw the Braw Lads and Lasses from Gala deservedly crowned Border Champions.

The Gala ASC squad was Henry Lynch, Jacob Hedley, Innes Little, Sebastian Grant, Ella Mundell, Darcie Liddle, Holly D’Agrosa, Amy Owenson, Arran Little, Elliot Hedley, Blake Hedley, Finlay Thomson, Laura Frizzel, Erin Liddle, Lucy D’Agrosa, Anna D’Agrosa, William Taylor, Jake Shepherd, Ryan Goudie, Andrew Watt, Maili Brown, Courtney Stewart, Beth Johnston and Sarah Frizzel.
