THREE Borders athletes have been selected as part of the Scotland squad for next year's Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Chris O'Hare from West Linton, Berwickshire's Guy Learmonth and Gordon's Samantha Kinghorn will all pull on the blue of Scotland in the Gold Coast.

And with further selections to be announced in the new year, former sprint champion Stacey Downie will be hoping to secure a relay spot.

Berwickshire sprinter Cameron Tindle will also be hoping to impress over the next few months to be included.

Both O'Hare, over 1500 metres, and Learmonth, over 800 metres, were part of the highly successful Scotland during the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

And Kinghorn, who is now regarded among the best T53 athletes in the world, also competed at Hampden in the T54 1500 metres.

Rodger Harkins, performance director at scottishathetics said: “I want to offer my congratulations to the athletes and coaches selected.

"They have really performed well in the past year and made a commitment to the Commonwealth Games and to a Gold Coast event being held in April."

The full athletics squad will be announced on March 1.
