BORDERS athlete Chris O'Hare has become only the second British runner to win the coveted Wanamaker Mile in New York.

The 27-year-old from West Linton led all the way at the New York Millrose Games to break the tape ahead of fellow Scott Josh Kerr, from Edinburgh.

Chris, who will represent Scotland later this year at the Commonwealth Games, clocked a hugely impressive 3:54.14.

In a field that included defending champion Eric Jenkins of the USA and New Zealand’s two-time Olympic medalist Nick Willis, Chris quickly made a statement of intent by sprinting into the lead on the opening 200 metre lap.

The only other British winner of the Wanamaker Mile is John Whetton back in 1965.
