EARLSTON is ready to excel on the court, pitch and track following the creation of a community sports hub.

Over the last few months the Hub, consisting of members of local groups and sports clubs, have been working hard towards engaging and enhancing opportunities for members of the local community to return to physical activity.

A successful funding bid to SportScotland has also been secured.

And later this month the Community Sports Hub will host a fun night for all ages to come and try different sports.

An open invitation is being made to anyone living in the Earlston High catchment area, which includes Melrose, St Boswells, Gordon, Newtown and Oxton, to take part in the event on Friday, June 15 from 6pm.

Children, parents, grandparents and extended families are all encouraged to take part in the come and try sessions, which include tennis, gymnastics and golf.

There will also be drinks and snacks and a friendly team to chat through local opportunities.

Following the Fun Night each club will have some great opportunities for adults to try different sports over six week programmes.

Live Borders club development officers Greig Shortreed and Lori Lee are working across five areas in the Scottish Borders to help clubs work together by sharing knowledge and resources.

“As inactivity has been a driver for many new government and NHS initiatives, Earlston Catchment Community Sports Hub have been working to ensure their community are providing opportunities to help reduce the gap,” said Lori.

“This new initiative is aimed at giving adults the opportunity to get back into activity through the help of their local clubs.”

“The project was designed to encourage family time and ignite adults of all ages’ love of sport.”
