BROTHERS Paul and Michael McVie went head to head in Selkirk Golf Club’s 2018 men’s championship final on Saturday, with the destiny of the trophy not being decided until the fourth extra hole, writes John Smail.

It was Michael who eventually triumphed, exacting revenge for a previous defeat in the final at the hands of his older brother.

“Usually when I play against Paul it’s a tight match,” said Michael after the trophy presentation, “but I never expected it to go to the 40th hole.

“The only real difference was that I got more of the rub of the green at the end. That’s us all square in finals, so hopefully we’ll get the chance to have a decider at some point.”

Selkirk’s 2018 ladies champion is Diane Cassidy, who lifted the trophy for the third consecutive year with a 6 and 5 victory over ladies captain Marjorie Lawrie.

The men’s B class championship was won by Thomas Bell, who overcame Greig Temple 6 and 4, while the C class title went to Dennis Smith who defeated Tom Welsh 3 and 2.
