SELKIRK manager Terry Ferguson resigned just hours after his young team suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of title favourites East Kilbride.

With none of last season's squad being retain by the Yarrow Park Club, it was never going to be easy for the recently qualified A licence coach.

But the hammering on the opening day was too much for Ferguson and his coaching team who stood down following the game.

The destruction began in only the third minute with Craig Malcolm netting the first of his four goals.

By the interval Kilby were four up with Selkirk struggling to get out of their own half.

Matthew Mackie made several stops to keep the score down but the goals continued after the break.

And an injury time penalty took the scoreline into double figures.

As well as Malcom's four strikes, Craig Howie, Graeme Holmes, Jamie Longworth, Anton Brady, Scott Stevenson and Jay McInally were also on target.

Kilby manager Brain Kerr said: "It was a professional performance from the team.

"We know Selkirk have struggled to bring in players and they are struggling a little, but we still showed them the respect they deserve."
