THERE"S no excuse for youngsters in the Borders getting bored during the October holiday, with another jam-packed sports and physical activity programme on offer.

The programme, run by Scottish Borders Council"s Sports Development team, Active Schools staff and Borders Sport and Leisure Trust has a variety of sports and activities, and will take place on various dates from 10-19 October.

Activities include disability sports, SFA football, badminton, cricket, hockey, MT biking, kidz club, and water sports.

Councillor Graham Garvie, Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Community Education said: 'The aim is to provide as many opportunities for children of all ages to keep fit and active during the school holidays.

'Whether it"s water sports, dance, football or badminton - there are plenty of activities to choose from and all will be provided by qualified coaches who have been selected for their experience and enthusiasm when working with youngsters.

'Following last year"s magnificent turnout, I am confident that youngsters can"t wait to book up and get ready for another active break.'

Neil Renton Sports Development Officer with SBC"s Sports Development Unit explained: "Once again, we have been working very hard to ensure that the programme meets the requirements of all age groups and abilities.

'We are keen to encourage as many youngsters as possible to sign up because it is really worthwhile and gives them the chance to learn new skills, try new sports and have a good time.'
