LAUDER played Hearts for the first time in 30 years at the weekend.

Jambos boss Jim Jefferies, who lives in the town, brought an under 19 side to the Royal Burgh.

The last time the Tynecastle club visited was for a match to celebrate the opening of the Border Amateur League club's new changing pavilion.

As local historian, and Hearts fan, Graeme McIvor explains: "The date was Sunday, September 28, 1980 in a match to open the new Lauder changing pavilion.

"Bobby Moncur, the then Hearts manager performed the opening ceremony.

"The Hearts team, which included Jim Jefferies, won 7-0. The scorers were Masterton, Porter (2), Maxwell, Scott and a trialist...listed as "Newman" who scored twice.

"The trialist was of course John Robertson who opened his Hearts account that day."

To find out the score of Sunday's match pick up a copy of this week's Border Telegraph - in shops from Wednesday, September 8.
