Davidson won his first Scotland under 21 cap in a 1-1 draw with Sweden in August.

A FOOTBALLER from the Borders revealed he felt relieved to be told by St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes he had been called up to the Scotland squad to face Brazil this weekend - because, when he was pulled aside at training, he initially thought he had done something wrong.

The 22-year-old former Peebles High School pupil, from Innerleithen, who has emerged as a key player for the Scottish Premier League side this season, was called up to the national squad ahead of glamour friendly at the Emirates Stadium in London on Sunday, March 27.

And if he makes his debut in the fixture he will be the first Saint to pull on a Scotland jersey for nearly 80 years.

Speaking to his club's website, Murray said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be involved - it is a massive boost for me and the chance to go away with the squad and experience the game against Brazil will be of great benefit, whatever my involvement in the game itself.

"To be honest, when he (McInnes) pulled me aside I thought I'd done something wrong so to discover that it was only to tell me the news was a relief! It is something to look forward to."
