CYCLE Selkirk held its second sportive earlier this month.

And yet again the 20-mile and 50-mile routes were hugely popular with cyclists of all abilities.

With both races starting and finishing at Selkirk Rugby Club a total of 73 riders took part.

Local mountain bike specialist Mick Scott was first home in the 50-mile route, which took in both Swires, Alemoor, and The Woll, with an impressive time of 2.37 hours.

Graeme Dobie triumphed in the 20 mile route with a time of 1.22 hours.

Alison Cullen from Cycle Selkirk told us: "One of the reasons we started this group was to promote cycling in and around Selkirk which seems to be working and this year attracted cyclists from as far afield as Falkirk, Livingston and Gateshead.

"The weather stayed fair for us however there was bit of a nightmare wind for the cyclists to fight against, some mentioned that they even had to cycle downhill.

"Hopefully our next step as an organisation is to develop a website and work with interested parties such as hotels, B&Bs, pubs and cafes to promote and encourage visitors to come to Selkirk no matter what level of cyclists they are whilst benefitting the local economy."
