HAWICK’S new-look team snatched a late victory on Saturday for the prefect start under manager Mike Atai.

It was Peebles Rovers who started the sharpest when on three minutes Daniel Mcaleavy saw his long range effort go just over.

A few minutes later Hawick’s Sam Campbell tried an audacious chip over Rovers keeper Darren Walker but the ball floated just wide of the post.

Chris Taylor saw his shot go narrowly wide of the post at the other end as play flowed up and down Whitestone Park.

A couple of minutes later Rovers’ Shaun Meikle saw his header go straight into the hands of Hawick keeper Kyle Rankin.

On the half hour mark Hawick’s Cameron Macfarlane headed straight into Darren Walker’s hands.

Just under ten minutes into the second period Jason Darling’s free kick just went inches over the bar.

But two minutes later Rovers keeper Darren Walker had to tip Craig Robertson’s long range effort over his bar.

It was looking more and more like a single goal would win this League Cup tie.

Chris Taylor saw his close range shot saved by Rankin.

And five minutes later Hawick’s Ryan Stevenson put his effort over the bar with the goal at his mercy.

In stoppage time Hawick’s Bobby Nwanze saw his effort cleared of the line by Dale Richardson.

Then in the final minute of added on time Hawick scored when Nwanze set up Robert Boyd to place the ball past Walker in the Rovers goal.
