GALA goal hero Jamie Gibson rewarded his gaffer for naming him captain by ending East Kilbride’s winning start to the season.

The 25-year-old decorator scored a penalty as well as the late winner for the Fairydean Rovers as they toppled title hopefuls Kilby at Netherdale.

Gibson said: “I was thrilled when the manager named me captain. I wasn’t expecting the armband but we have a really young team it’s good to be a role model for them.

“Nobody gave us much of a chance against East Kilbride but we showed today that we can beat anyone in this league. I’m pleased with my goals but it’s the points that are important.” Billy Miller scored Gala’s other goal in the 3-2 victory. Jack Smith and Sean Winter were on target for Kilby.

Ross Allum earned champions Edinburgh City all three points at Broadwood against Cumbernauld Colts to stay top of the table.

The 26-year-old took his tally for the season to three after adding to his earlier equaliser with an injury time winner.

Allum said: “That was a great win for us against a good team – you can’t beat a last-minute winner.” Garry O’Connor scored another two goals for unbeaten Selkirk in their 2-2 draw against managerless BSC Glasgow to stay hot on the heels of City.

Ciaran Johnston and David Gray were on target for the home team.

Selkirk boss Steve Forrest said: “We should be happy with a point through here but we had more than enough chances to win.

“Glasgow are a good team but I thought we were better today. We are still unbeaten after three games and I’ve got to be happy with that.” Sam Atkinson scored in injury time to give Gretna their first win of the season.

Darren Addison had scored for the Raydale club before George Leigh levelled for Stirling University.

Dave Greenhill grabbed a brace as Spartans raced to a 4-2 win over Dalbeattie Star at Ainslie Park.

Craig Stevenson and Aaron Murell were also on target for Dougie Samuels’ team. Lee Wells and Tommy Muir scored for Star.

Sean Wringe and Calum Connelly both scored in the final eight minutes at Victoria Park to give Whitehill Wefale a 2-0 win over Vale of Leithen.

A Chris Moffat strike was enough for Preston Athletic to claim the points against Threave Rovers at Meadow Park.
