DALBEATIE ended Selkirk’s unbeaten start to the season with a stunning 4-1 victory at Yarrow Park.

Even manager Darren Kerr admitted he was surprised by the ease of the win.

His makeshift squad raced into a 3-0 half time lead with goals from Richard Maxwell, Jamie McHarrie and Tommy Muir.

Although Garry O’Connor did score for the home side after the break Lee Wells compounded the home side’s misery with a late fourth.

Manager Kerr was delighted to follow up the midweek win over Gretna with another three points. He said: “I was surprised how comfortable we were in the first half. This is a difficult place to come yet we were well on top.

“We began to tire towards the end but I can’t complain as that’s two tough games in four days.” Edinburgh City took advantage of Selkirk’s slip to stretch their lead to five points at the top.

But Gary Jardine’s team had to come from behind at Meadow Park after Alistair Barry gave Threave Rovers a shock lead.

Dougie Gair equalised before the break and Ian McFarland headed the defending champions in front just before the hour.

Cumbernauld Colts gave new BSC Glasgow manager Craig Young a baptism of fire with a 4-0 thumping at Lochburn Park.

Stephen O’Neill grabbed a double early in the second half before Richard Kirnan sprinted from the half way line to add a third.

Jonathan Black’s late header gave Colts their second win in four days.

Spartans bounced back from midweek defeat at Selkirk to take all three points against Whitehill Welfare at Ainslie Park.

Aaron Murrell’s second half double and an early strike fro David Greenhill was enough for the 3-2 win.

Spartans boss Dougie Samuel said: “We needed a response after Wednesday and we got it.” Jamie Devlin scored Whitehill’s first-half equaliser and John Williams narrowed the deficit late on from the penalty spot.
