And they had battled back to level in injury time.

But Smith’s winner robbed them of a deserved point.

“It was individual errors that cost us for a couple of the goals.

“I have to look at the match positively and I thought we were super going forward.” It had been the perfect start for Forrest’s team as Garry O’Connor and Ross Gray had fired them into a two-goal lead inside the opening quarter hour.

Only fine saves from Matthew McGinley prevented Jack Hay and O’Connor adding to the tally as the visitors dominated.

But Kilby gradually worked their way into the match.

And they were rewarded for their efforts on 38 minutes as Craig Hastings, who had come on as a substitute, pulled a goal back.

Martin McBride equalised with the last kick of the first half - curling a terrific freekick beyond Jamie Newman.

Selkirk responded well after the break by creating several chances.

But they found themselves behind for the first time approaching the hour.

Smith ran onto a Hastings cross to fire into the net.

Kilby’s lead lasted barely two minutes as Florian Moulet curled a stunning freekick into the top corner from 25 yards.

Selkirk twice went close with McGinley saving well from O’Connor and moments later a Hay effort was blocked on the line.

The home team edged in front again on 79 minutes as McBride curled another freekick into the top corner.

Both teams created chances in the closing stages.

And it was Selkirk who were to find the net again in the first minute of injury time.

Hay raced onto O’Connor’s through ball to steer it into the net.

But the celebrations were short-lived as just two minutes later as Smith calmly finished from just inside the area.
