GORDON gaffer Craig Livingstone admits winning the Division A title was his team’s target this season.

But the player-manager admits lifting three cups has made up for being pipped at the post by West Barns Star.

Livingstone watches his players win their third trophy of the season on Saturday, as they edged out Tweedmouth Amateurs for the Forsyth Cup.

He told the Border Telegraph: “The league was our priority at the start of the season and we were disappointed to throw the title away.

“Winning the cups has more than made up for it and we’ll be back next season to try to go one better in the league.”

Gordon went in front against a dangerous looking Berwick side on the quarter hour from the penalty spot after striker Kevin Utterson was chopped down inside the area.

Euan Brown held his nerve to hit the back of the net from the spot.

Tweedmouth thought they’d drawn level 10 minutes later after Michael Antcliff finished off a fine one-touch move, but the winger was flagged for offside.

The English team continued to push forward, forcing four or five corners around the half hour mark.

And Gordon keeper Elliot Turnbull was forced into a fine save with his legs to deny Sean Philips in a rare foray forward for the centre half.

But Tweedmouth keeper Graeme Cain also produced a fine save to prevent Brian Tait’s cut back reaching Utterson in front of goal.

Gordon enjoyed more possession and territory after the interval with Tait and Danny Simpson both going within inches of doubling the advantage.

The second goal did eventually come on 69 minutes with Simpson squeezing home a shot at the back post following a goalmouth scramble.

Tweedmouth responded well and should have been awarded a penalty six minutes later as Turnbull clipped Aidan Lauder as the striker won the race to the ball. After lengthy considerations and dialogue with his assistant, referee Craig Lowrie restarted the match with a drop ball.

Turnbull, who was lucky to still be on the park, pulled off a fantastic save just three minutes later to tip Nicky Clark’s freekick round the post.

Gordon finished strongly with Graeme Gillie forcing a good save on 87 minutes and Utterson heading against the bar deep into injury time.

Manager Livingstone added: “I thought we were the better team although there wasn’t much between us.

“Tweedmouth are a good team and they were unlucky not to get the penalty.”
