GALA Fairydean Rovers Walking Football team maintained their 100 per cent record in the inaugural Scottish Walking Football League following the second round of fixtures at Ravenscraig, Motherwell.

Ten teams from throughout Scotland are taking part in the tournament which is organised by North Lanark Leisure.

Gala won their first three games, beating Stenhousemuir 7-2, Stirling 4-0 and Ayr United 5-2 - ending the day at the top of the table.

The following round saw Gala beat Fife Wanderers 4-1, Tullibody 4-0 and Greater Glasgow United 5-1 to sit top of the table with 18 points and a goal difference of plus 24.

Gala Fairydean Rovers walking team chairman John Hislop said: “It’s an honour to represent Gala Fairydean Rovers in the first ever national walking football league and it’s a fantastic achievement to have maximum points from our first six games.

"The matches were all played in a good spirit and the standard was very high.

"Two of the goals we scored would have graced any game and even the referees applauded.

"Walking football a great way to stay fit and the games are played at a pace which minimises impact injuries."

Each Gala player was provided with a pedometer to count the number of steps taken during the games, and the Gala players averaged 7000 over the three matches.

If anyone is interested in playing they can turn up at any of out sessions which are available at Langlee Community Centre between 2.30pm and 4pm each Monday and at Netherdale between 3pm and 4pm each Thursday.

New players are welcome.
