FOOTBALL fans are in for a treat this weekend as two Glasgow Premiership teams head for the Borders.

On Friday evening Gala Fairydean Rovers welcome Rangers to Netherdale.

And the following day Partick Thistle are the visitors at Selkirk's Yarrow Park.

Following Rangers' recent and unexpected exit from the Europa League at the hands of FC Progres, it is believed Pedro Caixinha will bring a strong squad down to Galashiels.

Rangers, featuring six first team squad members, were beaten 2-1 by East of Scotland side Tynecastle on Saturday in a friendly.

And under pressure boss Caixinha will be looking to restore some confidence within his ranks ahead of his league campaign kicking off next month.

Fairydean Rovers manager Steven Noble told us: "We have an extremely good relationship with Rangers as we have had a few players here on development loans and we also have some of our young players going the other way for coaching.

"This is a huge night for Gala Fairydean Rovers as we expect to be playing in front of a large crowd against really good players.

"Despite their recent disappointment Rangers are still one of the top teams in the country and I'm sure we will see why on Friday."

All three of Gala's new signings - Rhys Craigie, Daniel Pattenden and Mark Walters - are expected to be in Noble's starting team on Friday evening.

The manager, who has been on holiday for the past week, added: "We are close to full strength for the Rangers match and will need to be at our very best if we are to make a game of it.

"Playing against Rangers under the floodlights will be a great night for us."

Selkirk also welcome Premiership opposition this weekend with Partick Thistle arriving at Yarrow Park.

Alan Archibald will send his Development Squad to the Borders for a noon kick off as the first team are playing Livingston later in the afternoon.

Selkirk manager Ian Fergus told us: “Partick Thistle will provide a stiff test for our players and give us another opportunity to gel together before the season starts.

“We have a large squad and will be able to mix things around.”

Selkirk’s own development squad will face Tweedmouth following the Partick Thistle match on Saturday afternoon.

Fergus's team will also welcome Hawick Waverley to Yarrow Park tonight (Wednesday) to compete for the Billy Pringle Memorial Cup.

The manager added: “Hawick Waverley did well last season and will come here looking to give us a tough game.”

Hawick Royal Albert's build up continues with a friendly against junior side Dalkeith Thistle.

The Fairydean Rovers against Rangers match on Friday kicks off at 7pm - admission is £7 for adults and £3 concessions.

Selkirk's game with Partick Thistle kicks off at 12noon with the Selkirk development squad's match against Tweedmouth scheduled for 3pm.

Tonight's Billy Pringle Memorial Cup match kicks off at 7pm.
