Devronvale 3

Hawick Royal Albert 1

HAWICK'S new manager Craig Tully came out of retirement on Saturday in a bid to steer his team into the second round of the Scottish Cup.

But the 40-year-old former Dundee, Ross County and Peterhead defender only lasted half an hour at Princess Royal Park.

And it was the Highland League team from Banff who reached the second round with two late strikes.

Vale opened brightly but they found Craig Saunders in fine form as he made two outstanding saves inside the opening quarter of an hour.

The keeper was finally beaten on the half hour as Robert Scott raced onto a through ball to round him and slot home.

But the goal sparked Hawick into life and they were rewarded with an equaliser just two minutes before the break as Declan Hogg weaved his way into the box.

The midfielder's angled drive was deflected into the net by a home defender.

Hawick fought well to contain the hosts after the break but Devronvale regained the lead with 20 minutes remaining.

Lewis Dunbar held off a challenge on the edge of the area to squeeze a shot beyond Saunders from the angle.

Scott completed the scoring 10 minutes later as he rounded off an impressive one-touch move.
