GALA Hotspur finally got their hands on the Border Amateur Division B title to seal their return to Division A for the first time in over 20 years.

Spurs secured promotion thanks to a victory over Tweedmouth Amateurs on May 5 and then went top of the league a week later with a dramatic win over Linton Hotspur.

Langholm Legion needed to win their final two games to snatch the title from Spurs but lost at Leithen Rovers 3-1 to ensure Gala go up as champions.

Co-Manager Fred Blackie said: "It is 21 years since the Hotspur were last in the A Division and it is great to be back.

"It has been a remarkable season when you consider we should have been relegated last season and only survived due to league reconstruction.

"The boys have fought really hard this season and had an early success winning the Wright Cup. However a huge blip in February saw us badly beaten at Kelso and then knocked out of two cup semi finals.

"It looked like the season had imploded but the boys rallied and went on an incredible eight game winning streak and deserved the glory at the end of the season."

Pre-season starts on July 3 ahead of the new season.

Co-Manager John Robertson added: "We know we will have to be far fitter and sharper this season so the earlier we get the players in the better."

Spurs celebrated their successful season with their annual presentation night at Reivers Sports Bar, one of the club's sponsors, with Jimmy Dunbar being entered into the Hotspur Hall of Fame for his dedication to the club over decades.
