SELKIRK are warming up for one of the biggest nights in the football club"s history.

The Yarrow Park side tackle East of Scotland League rivals Lothian Thistle in the Image Printers Cup final at Victoria Park, Innerleithen, tonight (Wednesday).

It is the team"s last chance of silverware in a long and frustrating season which saw them relegated.

But the Souters, who may escape the drop to Division One if an East club is admitted to the Scottish Football League following the demise of Gretna, have not won a cup final in 30 years.

Speaking to the Border Telegraph this week, Selkirk boss Fraser Lothian said: 'This is a big game for the club but we are raring to go and I believe we can do it.

'It"s been a long time since Selkirk has won anything but I know the players are capable of scoring a result.'

Selkirk, who will be flying the flag for the Borders following Vale of Leithen"s 7-2 defeat to Spartans in the King Cup final on Monday night, narrowly edged out Easthouses Lily by the odd goal in three to reach the final.

It will be a chance for revenge against Lothian Thistle who conspired to consign them to relegation.

And, despite a season plagued by injuries, Selkirk have a full squad for the final.

Boss Lothian, who has drafted in former Selkirk keeper David Catlin as cover for number one John Dodds after Lenny Clark became unavailable, will be looking to score a belated present after celebrating his 50th birthday this week.

He said: 'It"s time for the players to stand up and be counted. I will remind them what it means to play in a final and urge them to go out and win it for themselves and the club.'

Selkirk"s Image Printers Cup final clash with Lothian Thistle kicks-off at Victoria Park, Innerleithen, on Wednesday at 7.15pm.
