FOOTBALLERS in Galashiels once had to make do with getting changed in the kit room and hoping to get caught in a rain shower after the game; But now the facilities at Netherdale have been kicked into the 21st century.
The Scottish Football Partnership, which grows the game at grassroots level, has funded a £150,000 project to pay for new portable changing rooms at the home of Gala Football Club - complete with showers, toilets and portable floodlights.
It is believed to be the first project of its kind in the country and is designed to pave the way for more permanent changing facilities within the next five years.
The SFA"s Senior Football Development Officer for the Scottish Borders, Dougie Anderson, said: 'This is a victory for the development of football across the region.
'Before there were three grass pitches but inadequate changing facilities - if there was a fixture clash then players could find themselves getting stripped in the kit room.'
But he added: 'We are grateful to the Scottish Football Partnership which has recognised that all the clubs in the town are working together to raise the standard of football in the area and rewarded them with this investment.'
