Selkirk given last minute reprieve in Scottish Cup

PAUL BROWNLEE"S road to Hampden will have to take a scenic detour round by both Coldstream and Dalbeattie.

Selkirk were given a Scottish Cup reprieve on Saturday by injury-time penalty hero Lee Stephen.

The manager now hopes the rest of his players can take full advantage by winning Saturday"s replay at Home Park.

And booking a trip to face Dalbeattie Star in the second round.

Brownlee told the Border Telegraph: 'We"re still in the cup, which I didn"t think was going to be the case with a couple of minutes to go on Saturday.

'There wasn"t a great deal of football played in the first game - it was a typical Border derby - and I expect the replay will likely be similar.'

Brownlee has his entire 15-strong squad fit for selection with Saturday"s substitutes Danny Smith, Alan Kerr, Ian Potts and Craig Evenden all vying for a starting place.

Brownlee added: 'We have yet to decide on how we will play at Coldstream but it"s good to know that everyone is able to play.'

Gala Fairydean don"t have to worry about their Scottish Cup run after crashing out in the first round on Saturday at Prestonpans.

But managers Bryan Templeton and Derek Hancock may lose some sleep over fire-fighting captain Shane Greene.

The 33-year-old centre half has just joined the Fire Service and won"t be available to play for the rest of the year.

Templeton told us: 'We will certainly miss Shane but we do have the players who can step in at that position.

'Everyone was disappointed following Saturday"s match and we all want to bounce back with a win this week in the league.'

The Dean travel to Civil Service Strollers hoping to maintain a three-season record.

Templeton added: |'They have never beaten us since I came to the Fairydean so I hope we can keep that going.

'Muirhouse is a difficult place to go if it is blowing a gale but if it is a fine day I"m confident we can get the points.'

Gala welcome back injured trio Jonny Kayser, Paul McKay and Rob Hewitson, and striker Des Sutherland is expected to be fit enough to start.

Selkirk"s Scottish Cup replay at Home Park kicks off at 3pm while Gala Fairydean"s East of Scotland First Division match in the capital starts at 2.30pm.
