FORMER Gala Fairydean striker Stuart Noble is preparing for a homecoming of sorts as he aims to pick up the first silverware of the season this weekend.

His Airdrie United side tackle Ross County in the ALBA Challenge Cup final at McDiarmid Park, Perth, on Sunday.

The 25-year-old forward, from Galashiels, played at the stadium for St Johnstone while on loan from English giants Fulham before he signed for the Lanarkshire side last summer.

Noble scored 16 goals and was second top goalscorer at the club in his debut season. And he scored the club"s first goal with a spectacular strike against Dumbarton at the start of this season. However, he has struggled to get off the bench in recent weeks.

Airdrie, who currently sit third bottom of the Scottish Football League First Division, qualified for the final following a 1-0 win over Partick Thistle at Firhill, while Ross County beat Morton 4-1 at Victoria Park.

The final will be shown live on the new BBC ALBA TV channel and kicks-off at 3pm.
