WEATHER-BEATEN leaders Dalbeattie Star crashed to only their third defeat of the season at lowly Coldstream.

Boss Gordon Holt fears his team may have blown their title chances after being caught in the breeze. He said: 'It was probably the worst game of football I"ve seen all season and that was down to the conditions.

'The wind played its part and may have cost us. Coldstream battled more than we did.'

Mark Bolton tucked away a penalty just after half-time and the prolific James Brydon snatched a second on the hour to take the Streamers away from the relegation zone.

Coldstream manager Peter McNulty was delighted with the win. He said: 'This was a big result for us.'

David Beattie and Ryan Curran both scored doubles as Easthouses Lily hit five past relegation rivals Selkirk at Yarrow Park.

Selkirk gaffer Paul Brownlee admits his team are now in trouble. He said: 'That was a game we expected to win and leaves us adrift from the other teams fighting to stay up. We"ve a couple of games in hand and will have to make them count.'

Captain John Waldie missed a penalty for the home side.

In the First Division leaders Gala Fairydean fired five past struggling Ormiston.

Jamie Gibson and Des Sutherland both scored doubles in the first half with a fifth own-goal coming late.

Debutant Sean Bannon scored both goals as Gretna continued their promotion charge against Vale of Leithen, and Civil Service Strollers revival continued with a 2-0 win over Leith Athletic.

Stirling University and Craigroyston shared the points in a six goal thriller.

Basement boys Hawick Royal Albert picked up only their second point of the season as they fought out a goalless draw with neighbours Kelso United.

Heriot-Watt University, Lothian Thistle and Tynecastle all progressed in the King Cup.
