STAR boss Gordon Holt celebrated his side"s seven goal hammering of lowly Selkirk by vowing to continue the title fight.
His Dalbeattie side are four points ahead of Spartans - but have played four games more.
Holt said: 'We have four games left and must win them all. If we keep playing like we did (agaisnt Selkirk) we will push Spartans all the way. Spartans are a good team but we must hope they will slip up.'
Partick Thistle target Lewis Sloan snatched a couple of goals at Yarrow Park under the watchful eye of Firhill scouts.
But he was overshadowed by the performance of Gary Redpath who scored a hat-trick. Scot Milligan and Gary Kerr scored the other Star goals.
Spartans kept up the pressure at the top of the Premier Division with a 3-1 win over Coldstream.
Dean Hoskins, Nicky Walker and Michael Opelka all found the net in a one-sided first half.
Streamers boss Peter McNulty had to deputise as goalkeeper with 30 minutes remaining after Scott Lumsden was injured. James Brydon scored a consolation for the home side before missing an injury-time penalty.
Spartans manager Mikey Lawson was pleased with the points. He said: 'We were really good in the first half and did enough to deserve the win.
'It"s going to be a hard run-in and we will need to be at our best to overhaul Dalbeattie.'
Whitehill Welfare moved into third with an easy 5-1 win over relegated Peebles at Rosewell. Mark Duthie, Mark Ellis, Darren McGlashan, Gary Calvey and Kevin Lee all scored for Gary Aitchison"s side.
The gaffer said: 'All we can do is keep winning and hope the top two drop points. We struggled a bit in the first half but we came onto our game in the second half.'
Matt Costello and Craig Manson both netted for Preston Athletic at the Pennypit Stadium against Easthouses Lily.
In the First Division, Gretna lost their first home league game of the season at Everholm Park against Craigroyston.
But third-placed side Civil Service Strollers couldn"t take full advantage as they were held to a 3-3 draw by Leith Athletic.
Stirling University moved closer to the promotion places with a comfortable 2-0 win over Ormiston.
And Eyemouth boss Carl Hudson enjoyed his side netting eight times against bottom side Hawick at Warner Park.
In the King Cup Kelso United shocked Edinburgh University to scrape through to the semi-finals on penalties.
Edinburgh City won the capital derby against Tynecastle. But Lothian Thistle were knocked out by rejuvinated Vale of Leithen following a penalty shoot-out.
New Vale manager Rab Paget said: 'We fought back well to take the game to penalties and I"m pleased to be in the semis.'
