SPARTANS were in seventh heaven on Saturday after hammering Peebles at Whitestone Park.
And close the gap on leaders Dalbeattie after they were held to a scoreless draw by Edinburgh University.
A Daryl Devlin double and goals from Omar Kader, Keith Mcleod, Struan Preston, Dean Hoskins and Donal Henretty gave Spartans an easy 7-0 win over bottom side Peebles.
Manager Micky Lawson said: 'It was an expected win for us but Dalbeattie"s draw is a bonus.'
Despite plenty of possession and chances the Solway side couldn"t find the net at Peffermill. And Gordon Holt"s side are now only a point in front of Spartans, having played two games more. A Craig Hume strike takes Lothian Thistle back into third after they beat Preston Athletic 1-0 at the Pennypit.
Selkirk gave themselves a Premier League lifeline after Michael Romanes rattled in a 93rd minute winner at Whitehill Welfare.
Goals from Lee Stephen and Romanes had given the Souters a 2-1 win half-time lead with Kevin Haynes finding the net for the Rosewell side. Scott Moffat equalised for Gary Aitchson"s side early in the second half.
But Romanes" late strike stole the points for relegation-threatened Selkirk.
Manager Paul Brownlee said: 'I hope we can go on from here and stay up.'
A Mark Brown header midway through the first half was enough to take Vale of Leithen to the final of the King Cup. Vale boss Rab Paget was delighted with his side"s 1-0 win over Edinburgh City at Meadowbank. He said: 'It"s a good win and keep our season alive for another month.'
A last minute Oli Antoni penalty took Heriot-Watt through to meet the Vale. John Young"s side won 1-0 over Kelso United at Woodside Park.
Tynecastle stretched their lead in the First Division with a 4-0 win over Eyemouth United. Gretna and Stirling University fought out a goalless draw, while Civil Service Strollers staked their promotion claim with a 4-1 win over Ormiston. Hawick"s woeful season continued with a 4-0 defeat by Leith Athletic.
