FORMER Scotland winger Pat Nevin is to give youngsters in the Borders tips on how to reach their goal to become a professional footballer.
The 46-year-old football pundit, who played for Clyde, Chelsea, Everton, Tranmere Rovers, Kilmarnock and Motherwell during a playing career which spanned 20 years and won 28 caps for his country, has agreed to meet a team of pupils in S3 at Earlston High School keen to kick-off a career in the sport.
He will be tackled on his life as a professional footballer and also answer questions about the discipline, diet and training necessary to reach the top.
Nevin, who now lives in Duns and works as a television football analyst for BBC Scotland's Sportscene and Channel Five, will also present an award to pupil Alice Magee, who was involved in the Earlston Youth Links (EYL) group which looked at improving the youth provision in the school catchment area.
The Dynamic Youth Award is a peer-assessed awards recognising the contributions and achievements of young people in the 10 to 14-year-old age group.
The event, scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, has been organised by Scottish Borders Council's Community Learning and Development Worker, Norrie Tait, who has been working with a group in the school as part of the national programme of Youth Work and Schools which aims to engage students as learners through an alternative curriculum.
