STRIKER Aaron Somerville scored a sensational double to take Vale of Leithen into the Image Printers Cup final.

The 23-year-old scored from 25 yards out either side of half time for a shock 2-1 win over Spartans at Ainslie Park.

Somerville said: "They are amongst the best I've ever scored but it was the defence that won the game for us, not me."

The First Division side had to withstand a late onslaught which saw Spartans hit the woodwork three times and also a consolation strike from Gavin Malin.

Vale manager Rab Paget said: "Spartans are amongst the best non league teams in Scotland but I thought we matched them all over the park.

"The defence was sensational when put under pressure and Aaron's goals were worthy of winning any game at any level."

The other semi-final also produced a shock with First Division team Gretna knocking out Premier side Edinburgh City.

Tony Nicholson and Adam McMath both found the net for Stuart Rome's side at Raydale Park. Danny Denholm scored City's consolation.

In the Premier Division, three second half goals gave Heriot-Watt University a 4-1 win over Civil Service Strollers.

Ally Duff edged the Students in front before Mike Dwyer equalised for Strollers.

But a Michael Connor penalty and goals from Simon Ferrie and Jamie Brown won the points for Michael Renwick's team.

In the First Division James Binnie and Sean Martin scored as Craigroyston fought back for a draw with Leith Athletic at Muirhouse. Greg Irvine and Martin Duthie had given Leith the half-time lead.
