OFFICIALS at Gala Fairydean are planning to field a new Under 19s team next season.
The ambitious move would see the teenagers play in the East of Scotland Under 19 League with teams such as Spartans, Edinburgh City and Tynecastle.
Several meetings have already taken place in the Netherdale clubrooms to take the suggestion forward.
And it is expected that a final decision will be made within the next few weeks.
Fraser Lothian, manager of the Fairydean's senior team, told the Border Telegraph: "We would be the first club in the Borders to have an Under 19s team and it would hopefully attract the best young players in the region to the club.
"It would be a really positive step for Gala Fairydean and we're trying to have it organised in time for next season."
Under the guidance of coach Rob Fairburn the club's Under 17s team is enjoying one of its most successful seasons.
And the new age-group team would likely be made up of a chunck of that current squad.
Mr Fairburn said: "Playing against some of Edinburgh's better players would be great for our lads."
Under current East of Scotland rules players can move from Under 19s to senior teams without bureaucratic difficulty.
Funding is believed to be in place for the new team, which would play its league and cup matches on a Sunday.
