Gala United 4 - 1 St Boswells
GALA United set themselves up for a promotion decider with Earlston Rhymers in a fortnight after extending their winning streak at the weekend.
However, they had to bounce back from a goal down to net all three points.
St Boswells took an early lead when defender Tom Fitch knocked the ball into the back of his own net.
However, former Fairydean forward Des Sutherland equalised for United and Callum Gass put the home side ahead at the break.
Gala goalkeeper Scott McMullen had to be alert to deny Alan Cairney before his side extended the lead in the second half. Gass struck the crossbar from the corner flag and Sutherland beat the keeper to head the ball over the line.
St Boswells substitute Shaun Bell had a chance to pull a goal back for the visitors but McMullen was equal to his effort while, at the other end of the park, Sutherland - who has now scored ten goals in just three games since joining the club - was denied a hat-trick by the woodwork.
However, United rounded off the scoring with little more than ten minutes remaining. Johnny Crawford played Roddy Eardley through on goal and his shot was knocked into the back of his own net by Thomas Moriarty as he attempted to clear his line.
Gala United's next match is against Earlston Rhymers, who lost to champions-elect Chirnside Colts at the weekend, on April 13. The winner will be favourite to clinch the second promotion spot from Border Amateur League Divison C.
United: McMullen, Ramage, Fitch, Pringle, Dickson, Cleghorn, J Crawford (McAuley), Di Fiore (S Harkness), Sutherland, Gass (A Crawford), Eardley.
