HIBS footballer Danny Galbraith is encouraging more youngsters in the region to follow in his footsteps - and tackle a sport this summer.
The former Galashiels Academy pupil has added his support to Scottish Borders Council's summer holiday sports programme, which runs from July 5 to August 13.
He revealed it includes the same SFA coaching sessions which kicked off his career.
And the 19-year-old forward, who scored his first senior goal for Hibs in a 2-1 victory over Celtic last season, admitted it was the ideal way to keep fit and healthy during the school break.
Danny, who signed for Manchester United on his 16th birthday and was part of the side which won the FA Youth Cup, said: "It's great to see there are still great opportunities for kids in the Borders and for some of them this could be a stepping stone into a career in sport.
"The programme includes SFA coaching sessions which were the first structured football sessions I was involved in. I still look back and remember how much I enjoyed them."
The council's sports development unit is running the programme in partnership with Border Sport and Leisure Trust (BSLT) and Jedburgh Leisure Facility Trust and includes new summer sports camps in Kelso and Duns.
As well as football, other sports on offer include athletics, cricket, hockey, golf, netball, basketball, rugby, tennis and other racquet sports. There will also be special coaching sessions in dance, cheerleading, and surfing.
Danny said: "The holiday programme is a great opportunity for parents to introduce their children to sport and encourage them to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. The variety of sports on offer is great and I would encourage kids to try as many different sports as possible while they are still young."
All youngsters across the region will receive a copy of the programme from their school over the next week. The programme is also available to download online at www.sportborders.org.uk and www.bslt.org.uk
Councillor Graham Garvie, Scottish Borders Council's Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Community Learning, said: "Being active and having fun is the perfect way for youngsters to spend their holidays so I would encourage youngsters to sign up for as many different activities as possible. All staff running the courses are qualified and selected for their experience and enthusiasm when interacting with young people so there is no doubt that the youngsters will be guaranteed a good time."
