Nekisha nets Chris Doyle football trophy
A GIRL has for the first time won a penalty shootout competed for by primary seven pupils in Tweedbank.
Nekisha Hannah emerged victorious from the Chris Doyle Penalty Shootout competition at Tweedbank primary school on Saturday. It is held in memory of former Tweedbank Lad Chris Doyle and is one of the highlights of Tweedbank Fair Week.
Chris was a keen footballer but died from a heart condition aged 16 in 2007. His dad Alan Doyle presented Nekisha with the winning trophy.
Speaking to the Border Telegraph, Alan said: "Chris was Tweedbank Lad in 2002 and his sister was Tweedbank Lass a few years later. It was quite a big moment and an honour." And he added: "This football tournament means alot and helps keep Chris' memory alive."
