Gala Rovers set to tackle John Collins All-Stars
SOME of the biggest names in Scottish football from the past 30 years will be on show at Netherdale later this month.
Prodigal son John Collins will return to his roots to face the team he openly admits to supporting - Gala Rovers.
And the former Scotland captain, who is now director of football at Livingston, will bring a few colleagues from the professional game with him for a glamour friendly.
The John Collins All-Stars against Gala Rovers will be played on the 3G pitch at Netherdale on Friday, April 27, at 7.30pm.
And the match is expected to attract the ground's biggest crowd since the revolutionary new surface was installed over the winter.
Rovers co-manager Craig Lowrie told us: "There's a real buzz around our dressing room at the moment. We're sitting top of the league, we're in two cup quarter finals, and we all have the All-Stars game to look forward to. Everyone at the club is excited about the match."
Collins, who starred for Hibs, Celtic, Monaco, Fulham and Everton during a glittering career, is out of the country just now. But it is known that John Hughes and Gareth Evans have already signed up for the floodlit match.
Lowrie added: "John is currently putting together his team of ex international stars to face us - but we don't know who will all be playing yet.
"It has the makings of being a really enjoyable night for everyone involved with the club and for the football fans in the Borders to get the chance to see these stars playing on their doorstep."
The match on Friday, April 27, kicks off at 7.30pm. Entry to the game is priced £5 on the gate. Under 16s go free.
