The 28-year-old was rightly regarded as one of the best midfield players in Borders football during his East of Scotland seasons with Gala Fairydean and Selkirk.
But a horrific training ground injury led to the painter and decorator being sidelined for over two years.
What was initially believed to be just a sprained ankle turned out to be severe ligament damage.
Surgery, months in a support cast and rehabilitation followed.
And on Saturday Hossack made his welcome return to senior football.
Paul told us: “I’m really pleased to get that 90 minutes under my belt and even more pleased that we won 5-1.
“I’ve been playing a few games with the amateurs since the start of the season to get my fitness back, but that was my first senior game in over two years.
“It was a tough one to take. You get your foot stuck at training and suddenly you can’t kick a ball for two years.” Hossack has been easing himself back by playing at centre-half but hopes to return to the position he loves most as the season progresses.
Paul added: “I want to get fit enough to get back playing in midfield – I like being involved all the time.
“A year ago I couldn’t picture myself playing again, so I’m happy just to be back.”
