The 18-year-old is in his third year at Championship side Falkirk.

And his season on loan at Yarrow Park is giving him the required game time he’d been lacking.

It’s been a busy six months at the Lowland League strugglers, conceding an average of four goals a game, but Amos has been one of his team’s regular pass-marks performers – and picked up several man-of-the-match awards.

Gregor told us: “I’m just enjoying getting the game time.

“You can train forever but unless you are in that match environment regularly you are not going to get any better. I don’t think it matters what standard you are playing at – coming for crosses in the Lowland League is the same as coming for crosses in the Premier League.” Amos is third choice keeper at the Bairns behind Northern Irish international Michael McGovern and Under 20s stopper Graham Bowman.

He continues to train four times a week with the Championship leaders.

And coaches at Falkirk Stadium have noticed an improvement in the youngster from Galashiels since his loan move began.

Amos continued: “I feel I’m improving all the time and my coaches at Falkirk say they are seeing a difference which is the whole idea of me going out on loan.

“My contract is up in the summer but I hope to stay at Falkirk, it’s a club I really like being around and they are good at bringing young boys through. Eight of the players from a recent starting 11 had come through the Academy.

“Michael and Graham are really good keepers and it will be difficult to ever get in front of them, but I’ll keep working hard. I want another contract at Falkirk but I don’t want to spend a season sitting on the bench – if the chance came up for another loan spell I’d take it.” The teenager, who attracted the attention of clubs like Manchester United and Ipswich in his youth, admits the Selkirk dressing room hasn’t always been the happiest of places as they linger at the bottom of the Lowland League – but he still wouldn’t change the season he’s having.

Gregor added: “It’s never going to be a good atmosphere when you get beat as much as we have but they are a good bunch of boys here and they’ve made me feel really welcome.

“I prefer being busy – there’s not much point in being here if I was just a spectator.”
