The 18-year-old goalkeeper, who attracted the attentions of several top English clubs in his youth, has spent three years at the Falkirk Stadium.

But there was some uncertainty over his future with the club, which finished third in last year’s league, after spending the season on loan at Lowland League club, Selkirk.

Last Tuesday, during the end-of-season player meetings, manager Gary Holt offered Amos a new one year deal.

A delighted Gregor said: “If anything the season on loan at Selkirk has helped me. The management said that they had noticed a massive improvement during the season and they wanted me to stay at the club.

“I was confident of getting a new contract but you just never know what’s going to happen.” Amos has been the third string keeper at Falkirk for the past couple of seasons behind Northern Irish international Michael McGovern and Graham Bowman.

And there is a chance he will be loaned out again as his development continues.

Gregor added: “I don’t mind going out on loan. I still train with Falkirk four days a week and I’m guaranteed game time if I’m at another club.

“I enjoyed the experience of being at Selkirk.

“All I can do is continue to work hard at improving my game and work hard in training.” Falkirk will face both Rangers and Hearts this season in a star-studded Scottish Championship.

Although decisions over Amos’ whereabouts won’t be made until the players return for pre-season training on June 26, Selkirk manager Steve Forrest would be quick to welcome him back.

He told the Border Telegraph: “Everyone at Selkirk is delighted that Gregor secured a new contract. He was tremendous for us all season and, if I’m honest, it will be sad to see him go.

“Whatever happens in his future there will always be a home for him at Selkirk.
